Job Shadow: I job shadowed Scott Danielson a airport operations manager who maintains all runways, taxiways, tarmacs, ramps, and hangars. While at the job shadow we did a variety of things ranging from fixing some lights that light the runway that a plane had hit, to him showing me what he has to do each time it snows, how he does a braking test so that incoming airplanes how what the braking distance is on the runways, filing out a NOTAM which is a notice to all airmen saying that Kearney Airport has received so much snow and the wind is blowing in such direction at so many miles per hour. He also took me around to all the different hangars and businesses that operate out of their airport. Some of the companies that work out of their are UNK, Great Lakes, Buckle, Buffalo Air, etc. While there Scott tried to get us an airplane to fly around in for a couple hours but they were all taken by students. The last thing we did was went to a couple of the private hangars and I got to look in the inside of some the private jets.
Volunteer work: I help Optimist basketball skills camp, Minden High School football and basketball camps, Baseball skills camp. I have also helped out with umping and reffing of little kid baseball and football games. Some school things I have been apart of are helping out with Honey Sunday by selling honey and raising money for the Archway, Blood Drive by handing out flyers to the public to let them know when and where it is being held, March of Dimes by selling and delivering cookies to all the kids who bought one, and being on the chain gang during the junior varsity football games.
Woodworking: In my woods class I have made projects ranging in different sizes, difficulty, and time. I have made things ranging from a kitchen table to a bench. Within these projects the instructor first makes us make a detailed drawing of all parts of the project and drawing them to scale so that when we got to working on the project we knew exactly how make the piece and make it correctly without having to go up to him and ask on every little piece and how to construct them to make a functional piece of furniture when it is all said and done.
World Geography Project: In World Geography freshman year we had to do a project on a country of our choice and act as if we were going on a trip there for a week. With the project we had to document where we were during the day and tell how much something cost. This helped me with my time management because I knew that it wasn't something I could wait to do on the night before it was due because it required much detail and organization. Also, you could tell who did theirs the night before because it was just thrown together and not put together neatly. One other skill I learned from this project is how to write a clear concise in depth paragraph and essay because I was a freshman and didn't know how to write well.
